Lionel Messi Urged To Retire As Football Fans React To Argentina’s Surprise Defeat

Lionel Messi has been urged to retire from international duty with Argentina for the second time after his team’s dismal showing against Croatia. The Barcelona superstar was totally anonymous as once again the blue and white stripes failed to impress on the big stage.

Goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic sealed a deserved 3-0 win for Croatia, leaving Argentina needing a minor miracle to get through the group stages.

Messi famously announced his international retirement back in 2016 after his team fell to defeat to Chile in the Copa America final.

And now footie fans are urging him to call it a day for good this time.

Sai Dileep wrote on Twitter: “Lionel Messi should retire immediately without damaging his name further.”

Another wrote that Argentina should “let Messi retire in peace”, while user CJ added: “If Argentina don’t go through, Messi should retire and stay retired”.

The general consensus on Twitter was that Argentina “don’t deserve” the 30-year-old striker.
